On the surface US Patent #818261 appears to be improvements in early turn of the 20th century trucks for use in fighting fires. When one reads the description, however, they get a different story.
“The principal object of the present invention is to provide a novel and attractive toy in the form of a ladder-truck, in which the truck is propelled by a suitable motor and carries an automatically-raised ladder”.
One can only imagine the antique toys that are on the market today who owe their existence to this early toy patent. There are three two-sided documents housed in three separate two-sided panels in our archival frame. It measures 29” x 18”. A very nice addition to your home or office. Ironically, only one day after this patent was filed a very famous event occurred that could have used a real fire truck like this…the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906.
